Internet feeling slow?

-

Households were never so alive with the sound of clacking keyboards and clicking mouses as they were during lockdown.

Many people have retained their home workstations, with the best prepared also future-proofing their setups by upgrading internet access points. Doing so ensures a smooth connection even when everyone logs on at once.

Care Free Computing owner Johnny Ellery says many Cantabrians discovered their internet speeds suffered under the added load of multiple users in the house.

To remedy this, he had a busy few weeks updating hardware in people’s homes for seamless internet use.

Replacing the internet access point is relatively simple and much more effective than adding a wifi extender, Johnny says, explaining that whereas a wifi extender spreads the same data stream thinner, an upgraded access point actually increases the data flow.

‘‘It’s very helpful when you’ve got kids streaming videos and extra pressure on a home system that wasn’t designed for that sort of usage,’’ he says.

‘‘Home internet use has been increasing anyway, so a lot of people now have a good head start on supporting that.

‘‘It’s always important to be prepared, and for us to be able to help people at this time has been very gratifying.’’

Care Free Computing works with residential users and small to medium-sized businesses, often by providing remote support through the company’s free software. This can be added to a computer so that if a problem arises, the team can quickly provide an expert solution.

Computer servicing with free pick-ups and drop-offs is also available, along with a wide range of new and used computers, custom builds, antivirus software and all the computer advice you might need.

Johnny says to help avoid problems, anyone still using Windows 7 should update to Windows 10 immediately because the old operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft.

‘‘We can help, but the key is to be proactive so minor problems don’t become big ones,’’ he says.
