Hannah Motor Services invests in future

-

Having the right tool for the job is important, which is why the team at Hannah Motor Services are rapt to have a shiny new wheel alignment machine at their Middleton workshop.

Pre-programmed for a wide range of European and other modern vehicles, the machine adds to the capacity of one of the busiest outfits in town.

Equally important, however, is having the skill and experience to get the most out of such advanced equipment, and to this end there are few in New Zealand better positioned to exploit the technical wizardry than those at Hannah Motor Services.

Known as Christchurch’s place to go for suspension repairs and alignment work, the workshop often supports others in the industry, as well as helping maintain company fleets and working with insurers.

Members of the public lucky enough to be in the know have been visiting for decades.

The tight-knit, family-run business is led by suspension maestro Rob McKay, who had arranged for the additional wheel alignment machine to be installed just before lockdown. They then spent several weeks itching to put it into use.

Rob’s partner, Tina, handles much of the office work, while Tina’s daughter Kirsty has mechanical expertise almost on par with Rob when it comes to keeping the wheel alignment

machine humming away. A new face can be found in mechanic Will.

‘‘We’ve got a fantastic team, which is such a strength,’’ Tina says.

‘‘Of course, you’ve still got to know what you’re doing,’’ she adds.

‘‘Sometimes a subframe needs to be repositioned or a suspension arm needs to be shimmed to correct the camber and caster, and a lot of younger guys just don’t have the experience. Kirsty learned from Rob, so you could say she’s learned from the best.’’

In addition to specialist wheel and suspension work, Hannah Motor Services provides a full range of mechanical repairs and servicing options.

Tina says the flurry of warrant of fitness tests delayed by lockdown have now been completed, although drivers can’t be complacent with the short days, icy roads and wet weather of winter. Tyres, batteries, coolant and everything mechanical is handled by Hannah Motor Services, where the expertise is matched by a warm sense of humour and genuine good will.

‘‘Oh, we’ve got lots of regulars,’’ Tina says with a laugh.

‘‘We all love cars but we love the people too – that’s the real heart of the business, isn’t it? You can have all the gear but the big draw is Rob, Kirsty and Will because it’s their experience that lets you know you can trust the service. It’s something we’re very proud of.’’
