Kiwi musicians entertain 10,000

-

Sunny skies and a 10,000-strong crowd helped kick off the annual summer concert tour in Queenstown on Saturday.

The 11th Gibbston Valley Winery concert featured an allKiwi line up this year including Gin Wigmore, Dragon, the Jordan Luck Band, stellar* and Hello Sailor. Three Australian music acts The Angels, Pseudo Echo and MiSex were to have played, but were replaced with Kiwi acts after fresh Covid-19 outbreaks in Australia.

Greenstone Entertainment chief executive Amanda Calvert said New Zealand was in fortunate and unique position and Saturday’s concert was a testament to just how lucky we are. With temperatures peaking at around 21 degrees Celsius, the concert goers relished the opportunity to get their dancing shoes out and turn on their best (or worst) singing voices.

The first main act was Hello Sailor, who built a following in the late 70s and beyond with Kiwi classics including Gutter Black, Blue Lady and Billy Bold.

Next up was stellar*, featuring the original band line up that released their first single in 1998. The Jordan Luck Band had the crowd rocking to Kiwi anthems including Victoria, Why Does Love Do This To Me, Who Loves Who the Most and I’ll Say Goodbye.

Dragon, who had not performed live for more than nine months, then belted out songs including April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough and Young Years before the final act , multiple music award winner, Gin Wigmore. Best known for her raspy and unique voice, she entertained the crowd with her unmistakable songs including Hey Ho, Kill of the Night and Man Like That.
