‘‘As a trusted aged-care provider, we have enjoyed successful growth because of our ability to nurture and grow environments that feel like home.’’ Golden Healthcare general manager David Sidaway.

Golden Healthcare Group has built a strong reputation in Christchurch since 1985 for providing high-quality support to its residents in aged care, including through dementia care. Dementia is a specialist side for them.

Its seven facilities in the city operate with a well-developed understanding of the needs and expectations of people moving into a retirement setting, with caring staff on hand to make the transition the best move of a person’s life.

Golden Healthcare general manager David Sidaway says the group aims to provide support that is always present but never overbearing.

This approach was maintained after Heritage Lifecare bought the seven facilities in 2019 and kept them as standalone operations, utilising the experience of a long-serving operational team.

David says everyone strives to ensure residents are living their very best lives.

‘‘As a trusted aged-care provider, we have enjoyed successful growth because of our ability to nurture and grow environments that feel like home.

‘‘We promote inclusion, interaction and strong community values,’’ he says.

‘‘You can see it in the grounds. Staff and residents take exceptional pride in the gardens and outdoor areas, which are used frequently, as are the many other resources on offer at the facilities.

‘‘Residents also benefit from clinical support that has been carefully integrated into services to provide a continuum of care that meets their changing needs.

‘‘This allows a level of support that everyone at Golden Healthcare is very proud of.’’

The local beginnings of the group are another source of pride, David says.

This is reflected in the friendly, down- to-earth staff who are happy to assist family members with the decision of where to place their loved ones.

Golden Healthcare’s facilities include the Golden Age and Brookhaven rest homes, with dementia care available at Camellia Court, Hoon Hay Rest Home, Hoon Hay House Dementia, Albarosa Rest Home and Somerfield Rest Home.

For people seeking more independent living, there are 45 quality villas at the Golden Age and Brookhaven villages, both in Papanui. No Villas are currently available

Golden Healthcare employs 260 staff, including a professional services unit of registered nurses. They look after about 350 residents.

The group kept its familiar branding through the change of ownership and its stylised golden circle continues to be seen on all its amenities, as well as the four vans in its healthcare fleet.

The vehicles are used across the facilities for the many outings on offer.
