Jaquie Brown offers wise about her new quiz show.

Alright! Word Up is a comedy quiz show based on words. It’s a brand new concept, invented right here in New Zealand. Each week, the show is themed around one word and we have guests that link to that word, as well as comedians and celebrities. There are guessing games, messy games, sniffing games, dressing up games, a whole bunch of games and me sitting awkwardly on a chair, trying to keep things under control and failing. I love quiz shows, I love words, I love arguing with Steve Wrigley – it was a no-brainer. Well, Steve is always disruptive, but he assures me he is taking medication for that. I have enjoyed all the guests that have been on the show. Rhys Darby is hilarious, Dave Fane, Sonia Gray, Jesse Mulligan, Pua Magasiva, Madeleine Sami and, of course, our amazing writers Nick Rado and Jesse Griffin. We also had Claire Sullivan and Meschel Laurie from Australia and they were fantastic.

If I had to choose a co-host and Steve wasn’t available, I’ve had some wonderful co-hosts in my time, including Dominic Bowden. But I’d go for Rebel Wilson. I just love her, or if Rebel was busy – my mum, because she’d say I was doing a great job, even when I wasn’t, and would probably have snacks in her handbag. They have all been my favourites really, because they took a chance on a new show and came on and had a lot of fun, I really appreciated that.

I would love to do a newsthemed show and get Mike Hosking and Jack Tame on to battle it out. I’d get them to do some weird physical challenge that involved baby oil.

Today, my favourite word is

‘‘sleep’’. Just because.

9pm, Thursday, TV One.
