Fingers crossed for more Steel highs

-

It is an exciting time to be part of the Steel team. Due to the conference format, we find ourselves in the finals system. From here, it is one performance at a time. If we execute, we can win. This team’s journey has been an enjoyable one. There is something special about having a collective vision and collaborating on a plan to make it happen.

A team environment that is successful but also enjoyable will have a special culture – one that promotes everyone’s opinion and encourages individual participation and ownership.

The bond formed through continuous hard work and sacrifice, as well as the highs and lows of the season, is a special one.

You see people when they are down and vulnerable.

You sit through reviews where we are critical of each other and provide feedback.

You sit on long plane rides home after losses, sharing the disappointment and frustrations.

You ride the rollercoaster with each player between these lows and the highs, which can range from small gains at training to wins on court.

These shared experiences provide that feeling of belonging, unity and purpose.

It has been a privilege to again be part of the Southern Steel team as we do our best to represent the wider team that is the Netball South region.

We have a team and management largely unchanged for the past few seasons with some new recruits this year who joined us seamlessly and added to our environment instantly.

I wish the team and management all the best for their game against the Magic.

Steel deserve to be in the playoffs and they also deserve that each individual gives their best in this game. Fingers crossed the team share a few more highs this season and further cement the bonds for an improved, more resilient 2016 team Made of Steel.

Simon Jones is the Southern Steel’s strength and conditioning coach.
