McLean makes it four in a row

- JERRIE VALLI GOLF

SBS Bank Invercargill Golf Club held its club championships recently and there were plenty of talking points.

One of those came from Margaret Baillie – she won the club’s Bronze A Championship, and then went on to also win the Riverton Golf Club’s Bronze A Championship just a few days later; a great feat to hold two championship titles at the same time.

Tyler McLean was another to feature on the Invercargill club champs winners list – notching up his fourth successive men’s championship win. If he can make it five next year he’ll make it the most men’s wins in a row in the club’s history.

Chris McMillan made it two in a row in the Junior A division – that has never been done before in that grade.

Other winners included Robyn Pullar (Women’s Silver), Fiona Murray (Women’s Silver Plate), Sue Hogan (Women’s Bronze B), Tony Chadderton (Intermediate Men), Graeme Fulton (Junior Men’s B) and Barry Holsted (Junior Men’s C). ** If they say luck comes in threes, then Rex McDonald has had his share.

The Queens Park member struck his third – yes third – hole in one on Saturday.

His latest ace was on No17 at Queens Park. Well done. ** Congratulations to the golfing finalists in this year’s ILT Southland Sports Awards.

It’s been another good year for Southland’s representative players and that’s been acknowledged with the Southland Women’s Masters Golf Team named a finalist in the Southland Kia Team of the Year category, and Robyn Boniface a finalist in the NZME Masters Achievement of the Year category. ** Oreti Sands’ Murihiku Maori tournament was postponed recently, due to bad weather, but the club says it will go on – it is looking for another date.
