Boot camp ideal fit

- TRUDY BURDON RUNNING MUM

My cough and cold has gone and I have had a burst of energy this week. I’m not sure if it was the energy or a weak moment when I said yes to starting a boot camp this week.

I’ve never done one before, but I do enjoy exercising in a group with a variety of people at different levels.

The classes are inside and this particular boot camp is also childfriendly, which suits me.

There are also a variety of class times to choose from in a week and there happened to be a deal, which made it very affordable.

It was a no-brainer really, and when I met the lovely ladies – Tanya and Bailey – who run it, I knew I was in the right place.

I had been to a Zumba class that Tanya took a few years ago and her enthusiasm and energy is a force to be reckoned with.

The first meeting was an assessment of fitness, which involved things like measuring your vertical jump, how many press ups you can do etc.

We were given a fitness journal (plan of action) booklet.

There is also an optional eating plan booklet, if that’s what you’re after too.

After the first session I was excited about the journey ahead.

The second class was fitness time.

The class was held in a big gym/hall and although we all exercise together, we are able to go at our own pace. Skipping, squats, sit ups, burpees – you name it, we seemed to do it.

I was instantly hooked, feeling like these two ladies would be able to push me to my limits – in the happiest, most positive way.

I have managed three runs and two boot camp classes this week.

I will get back to my pump classes at some stage too, as I love them, but for now it is boot camp for eight weeks, with runs in between.

I can already feel my weak core and poor posture improving, which I know will help my niggly back and neck.
