Rotary to host swap meet, car show

The Invercargill Sunrise Rotary Club will host its first Swap Meet and Auto Show tomorrow.

Committee member John Rabbitt said the idea to hold the auto-based event came about after members of the club decided they wanted to do something different for a fundraiser.

One or two club members who were car enthusiasts suggested they do something like the big car swap meets held in Christchurch, Rabbitt said.

The swap meets in Christchurch had been going for several years and were quite popular, he said.

‘‘People are always interested in cars, you just have to look at the [Bill] Richardson museum. Excuse the pun, but it’s a spinoff from that.’’

Invercargill was wheels, Rabbitt said.

Depending on how the first swap meet went the club might look to do it again, he said.

‘‘If it’s a success, we can build

a

city

of on it in years to come.’’

All the money raised from the event would be donated to various charities which would be detailed after the event, Rabbitt said.

The event will be held at the Centrepoint rugby grounds off Dunns Rd on Saturday, from 10am to 3pm.

Entry is $5 per person with children under 16 free.
