Staging a theatre restaurant show
There are a few people in the Winton community who think it’s their high time to shine.
In December, the Southland town will stage its own theatre restaurant show and it’s as local as you can get.
Featuring a cast of Winton community members and catering from Country Manner, organiser and musical director Jolene Kynan-Wilde is part of the group, Winton Theatre Friends, who is getting the ball rolling.
‘‘There was a Winton drama club but that hasn’t been running for about 20 years,’’ she said.
That’s Life would be the title of the show and would also serve as an opportunity to show off the amenities of the newly refurbished town hall.
Auditions take place this weekend and Kynan-Wilde was keen on exploring Winton’s homegrown stars, especially in the male department, since only two blokes had signed up for an audition so far.
‘‘There’s heaps and heaps of talent out there,’’ she said. ’’It would be nice to showcase that.’’
Now in her 30s, it had been a long time since Kynan-Wilde had seen any show put on in Winton to the level she was trying to stage. ’’I was a little girl last time I went to anything like a professional show,’’ she said.
The show’s title related to its themed plot, which would be telling quirky stories about events in people’s lives.
Erring on a bit of the risque side, the theatre restaurant would be an R18 event. ’’Everyone’s keeping their clothes on but there’s a few jokes [of an adult nature],’’ she said.
The song list had already been finalised and would feature some Kevin Bloody Wilson songs.
Starting out on a comedic note, Lonesome Loser from Little River Band had been chosen to open the show, which will take place in December.
