Gilmour Rosebowl stays in Waikaka

The Gilmour Rosebowl is staying in Waikaka after their most recent challenge, which saw Waikaka defeat Wyndham 3-2. Results were: Adie Crispin bt Irene Walker 3/2, Dianne Cleland lost to Judy Hunter 3/2, Janis Steel bt Ursula Scully 2/1, Deryn Cullen bt Norma Mitchell 3/2 and Kate Cross lost to Janet McArthur 1 down.

* * * * * Also staying put is the Laing Shield, with Nightcaps seeing off a challenge from Te Anau recently. Results: Brett Dobbie all square with Dan Turner, Kyle Dobbie bt Mark Daly 8/6, James Harding bt Ian Collie 2up, Stu Dobbie bt Richard Mundie 3/2, Ross Mangels bt Lex Suddaby 2/1 and Herbert Black all square with Alan Ballinger.

* * * * * Riversdale Golf Club’s 27 Hole Men’s and Ladies Tournament will tee off at 10am on Sunday. The tournament will have gross, medal and stableford grades according to entries, and the Austin Trophy for best nett is up for grabs.

* * * * * Golf Southland’s Vice President Pennants got under way at the weekend, with four teams teeing off for the competitio­n.

The first round was played at Greenacres, but that didn’t do the home team any favours as Greenacres (1) lost to Winton 41⁄ -11⁄

Results were: Kyle Dobbie defeated Daniel Mills 1up, Max Schuuster defeated Chris Sherlock 7/5, Stu Dobbie defeated Brent Allison 2/1, Allan Ward squared with Robbie Birch, Kevin Cooper defeated Brian Gibson 4/2 and Geoff Maynard lost to Rob Dreaver 4/2.

In the other match, Invercargi­ll drew with Queens Park 3-all and results were: Craig O’Rorke defeated Liam Hewitt 8/6, Tony Chadderton lost to Rex McDonald 6/5, Mark Horgan lost to Jeff Mowat 1down, Murray Paterson lost to Murray Hamilton 3/2, Peter Morsink defeated Peter Black 5/4 and Andrew Ward defeated Graeme McKenzie 5/3. Greenacres (2) had the bye.

* * * * * Southland is well represente­d at the NZ Seniors tournament in Waihi this week – there are 18 Southland ladies from nine different clubs competing.

* * * * * The ILT/DB Liquorland Charity Tournament, played at Queens Park last week, proved a great day out.

There were 124 in the field, and a generous donation was made to Koru Care after the event.

The men’s winners were Adam Waite and Dennis Todd (Hedgehope) with 48 points, who finished ahead of Jamie Milne (Winton) and Tim MacKay (Queens Park) with 47, and Paul Cardoso and Ivan Lucka (Queens Park), also with 47.

The ladies section was won by the Greenacres pair of Joan Smith and Judith Lloyd with 46 points.

Runners-up were Jan McColl (Queens Park) and Teena McColl (Gore) on 45 points and third place went to Jo Raines and Linda Suddaby (Queens Park) also on 45 points.
