Appleby also banked a commanding win on Saturday with an eight-wicket victory over the Metro Tigers.

Promising young player Sam Downing teamed up with Kieran Lloyd to roll through the Metro batting lineup.

Downing took four wickets and Lloyd three as Metro were skittled for just 91 in 31.5 overs.

Appleby lost openers Scott Donaldson and Dhruval Avery early in the chase but Lloyd backed up his deeds with the ball to deliver with the bat as well. He hit an unbeaten 50 from 40 balls as Appleby chased down the total in just 16.1 overs.

Meanwhile, Bay of Plenty retained the Hawke Cup with a first innings victory over Nelson in Mt Maunganui at the weekend and will face Southland in their final Hawke Cup defence on the season.

The Bay of Plenty-Southland three-day fixture will be played on March 10, 11, and 12.
