Greenacres, Queens Park and Winton are the 2017 MLT Vice Presidents Pennants semifinali­sts.

The semifinals will play out at the SBS Bank Invercargi­ll Golf Club on May 6, and will see Greenacres 1 play Winton in one semifinal and Greenacres 2 play Queens Park in the other.

The latest round was played on Saturday at Queens Park.

Greenacres 1 drew with Greenacres 2 3-3 (Tegan Proudfoot lost to Bryce Geary 2up, Brett Dobbie defeated Dan Mills, Shaun Cowley defeated Fraser Purdue 1 up, Steve Kennard lost to Chris Sherlock 3/2, Bill Irvine lost to Allan Smith 2/1 and Stu Coburn defeated Robbie Birch 3up).

In the other match, Winton had a good 5-1 win over Invercargi­ll (Ewan Clarke defeated Tyler McLean, Barry McAllister defeated Craig O’Rorke, Max Schuster defeated Mark Horgan, Jason Unahi defeated Peter Howley, Stu Dobbie defeated Chris McMillan and Allan Ward lost to Andrew Ward).

* * * * * The women from Waikaka have continued their winning ways.

Their team, comprising Dianne Cleland, Janis Steel, Monica Hansen and Lois Byars, took out the National Teams Event at Greenacres last week, with 130.

Runners-up (on countback) was the Riversdale team of Pam Snell, Vicki Dillon, Marie Roy and Diane McKeown, who finished with 132, and third place went to the Lumsden team of Lois Mitchell, Sue King, Shelley Mollison and Maureen Stewart.

Waikaka also claimed the Golf Southland Women’s Pennants title recently, and have defended the Gilmour Rosebowl for a number of consecutiv­e months.

* * * * * A strong Southland Country team has been named to compete against their Otago counterpar­ts at Arrowtown on May 2.

The Southland team is: Helen Baird (Dipton), Lorraine Froger (Wyndham), Anita Fraser (Riverton), Bronwyn O’Brien (Tuatapere), Pam Macleod (Waikaia), Geraldine Todd (Dipton), Niki Hume (Winton) and Janet Anderson (Winton).

* * * * * The Lumsden Men’s Tournament, which was scheduled for Sunday April 30, has unfortunat­ely been cancelled due to there being no water.
