Conchords join Disney show

-

Rhys Darby has picked up a new role with Disney, alongside his old Flight of the Conchords‘ mate Jemaine Clement.

The Kiwi accents are taking over Disney television series Milo Murphy’s Law, the sequel to Phineas and Ferb.

Milo Murphy’s Law premiered offshore in October, with Clement playing a major role as a famous actor in the show. Clement played Dr Zone, a recurrent character in a show within the show. In effect, Clement was the Peter Capaldi of the Milo Murphy’s Law world as Dr Zone starred in a time travel show.

Darby announced on Tuesday night he would star in the midseason finale Missing Milo. The one hour feature was due to broadcast offshore on July 22, however Sky New Zealand did not know if Disney would screen the show here on the same date.

Milo Murphy’s Law had been broadcasting on Disney XD through June.

A new batch of episodes would land in July, a Sky spokeswoman said.

Phineas and Ferb creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh were behind the cartoon. It was set in the same world as their earlier creation and ran along similar storylines.

Milo Murphy’s Law followed its namesake character as he, his friends and family went on adventures.

But as the name suggests, with Murphy’s law, anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

Darby told TVNZ that his unique voice gave him an edge in the international acting scene.

‘‘I want to get this voice, I want to get our accent, out across everything because we’re part of the world,’’ he added.
