Allpress injured in fall

- TIM RYAN

Lisa Allpress will be out of action for some time after being injured following a fall in a jump-out at Hawera on Monday morning.

She will miss the Group I ride on Rock On in Sunday’s rescheduled Livamol Classic (2040m).

The current jockey premiership leader suffered shoulder damage in the incident, in which Miranda Dravitzki and apprentice Alfred Chan were also injured.

Allpress was booked for Rock On in the Hawke’s Bay feature, as well as Shadow Fox in the day’s Group III Red Badge Sprint Sprint (1400m).

Other rides she will miss include Sensible Princess in Saturday’s Group III Sweynesse Stakes (1200m) at Rotorua and Athletica in Monday’s Group III Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa.

Feeling battered and bruised on Tuesday, Allpress was waiting on the outcome of doctor and orthopaedic surgeon visits to ascertain whether surgery is required.

Both shoulders were injured in the fall with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left and a sprain to her right shoulder.

‘‘I don’t really know what happened but I must have put my arms out to break the fall,’’ she said. ‘‘All I know is that it hurt.’’

How long she is lost to the riding ranks will depend on the extent of her injuries.

‘‘I’m thinking I’ll be back in a few weeks but in reality it will be longer than that,’’ said the hardworking optimist.

‘‘Obviously I’m bitterly disappointed,’’ she said.

‘‘I’ll miss a Group I ride on Saturday and Sensible Princess is a horse I think is going to the top so I hope I can get back on her when I recover.’’

Trainer Gary Vile has confirmed Alysha Collett who shares the jockeys’ premiership lead with Allpress, as Rock On’s replacement rider in the Livamol.

‘‘Rock On will head to the Livamol again and after that we’ll decide whether we go south with him or stay up here,’’ Vile said.

Rock On holds a nomination for the New Zealand Cup (3200m) on November 18.

‘‘It will depend on the track at Riccarton, he won’t be going if it looks like being too hard,’’ Vile said. ‘‘There’s some great options so we’re not going to panic, the Manawatu Cup, Wellington Cup and the Auckland Cup are good races for him.

‘‘He will be up against it in the Livamol against the likes of Gingernuts but he’s very well. We’ve waited around for this race and he’s ready to go.

‘‘His work this morning [Tuesday] was right up to the mark and we’re very happy with him.’’

Vile is in the same boat with his Hawke’s Bay Guineas winner Hard Merchandize who runs in Monday’s Sarten Memorial.

‘‘He won’t go to Riccarton if the track is hard,’’ he said. ‘‘He needs a bit of give in the ground and we will wait and see how he goes on Monday.

‘‘He may not go down to Riccarton, we’ve really got to concentrate on the Karaka Million.’’

The Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) on January 27 is the goal.
