Invisible first lady surfaces on Twitter

-

Ignore the conspiracy theories, America’s first lady is doing just fine, says the White House.

First lady Melania Trump, pictured, — who has not appeared in public in 20 days — was at the White House yesterday, conducting meetings, according to her official Twitter account and a spokeswoman.

However, she was not going to join her husband in the administration’s Sports and Fitness

Day on the South Lawn.

Speculations about the first lady’s whereabouts have since taken over social media as she has not been seen in public since before undergoing a procedure for what the White House has described as a ‘‘benign kidney condition’’.

The 48-year-old was last spotted with US President Donald Trump on May 10, as the couple welcomed home three American hostages from North Korea at Joint Base Andrews.

Four days later, Melania Trump was checked in to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what officials described as ‘‘an embolisation procedure to treat a benign kidney condition’’. She returned to the White House on May 19. Despite official state- ments, rumours about the first lady returning to the confines of Trump Tower, staying with the Barack and Michelle Obama or filing for divorce ran rampant across social media.

‘‘I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing,’’ the first lady tweeted yesterday. ‘‘Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!’’ - NY Daily News
