Popular event great start to Queens Birthday weekend

-

An integral part of Gore’s Queens Birthday weekend event calendar, the annual Truck Show is in its 31st year and will be held on Saturday, June 2.

Trucks entered in the show are required to be at Transport Repairs, Faulkner Road between 8.30am and 12 Noon, where judging will take place until Noon.

Members of the public are welcome to come along and have a wander around the trucks throughout this time.

Once judging is completed, the trucks and their drivers/passengers will start getting organised for the big parade with a start time of 2pm.

Secretary Rhonda Wilson says there are 44 sections in the Truck Show this year with a new category for Trucks with Lights. Trucks that look the part on the roads at night are encouraged to enter.

Last year there were 62 entries in this increasingly popular event, which runs the length of Gore’s Main Street takes approximately half an hour to complete. Concluding at Traffers Tavern in Hokonui Drive, the trucks can be viewed at this destination and the prizegiving will follow at 4pm.

Throughout the day there will be musical entertainment, a sausage sizzle, coffee cart and transport-related stalls.

The three new sections introduced last year, Passenger Transport, Vintage 40 years plus and Refurbished, will feature again this year and Rhonda hopes they will be well supported.

‘‘The buses are back this year, but I would like to see a few more entries in this section,’’ she says.

Trucks entered in the show range from the very old working trucks to the very large and shiny rigs and are coming from all over the South Island.

‘‘If long haul drivers are in town, they make sure they are there,’’ says Rhonda.

The Gore Truck Show was first introduced by two locals who had seen the concept advertised elsewhere and thought it was a great idea.

The Truck Show is exceptionally well supported by sponsors throughout the Eastern Southland region and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs across all the categories. Guaranteed to be a great day out for the whole family, pencil the Gore Truck Show into your weekend calendar and head along for some fantastic, truck-filled fun.
