Washed-away bridge section used as bypass
A 19-tonne section of the Pyramid Bridge, which was washed away by floodwaters in February, is now serving as a bypass while Gore District Council replaces the Kennedy Rd bridge. The section of the swept-away bridge was salvaged from the Mataura River after the flood. It is planned the construction of the new Kennedy Rd bridge will begin in late August and will be finished by midDecember. The Pyramid Bridge had stood across the Mataura River since 1930, connecting the farming communities of Otama, Wendon and Riversdale.
