A stabbed Invercargill teenager rolled around in his friend’s car telling his family he was going to die, while his father pushed towels into his wounds.

Jack McAllister died on June 8 2017 after he was stabbed 14 times near an Invercargill stadium around 11pm on June 7. Five people are on trial accused of the 19-yearold’s murder while two others have admitted the charge.

His birth father’s partner, Debra Fraser, gave evidence in the High Court in Invercargill yesterday. She recounted the last moments before McAllister, also known as Jade Fearn, was taken to hospital where he died after the attack.

At 11.55pm she received a text from McAllister saying he was ‘‘coming back’’.

She could not respond as she was driving home from the supermarket.

‘‘I pulled up my driveway. When I got home I hadn’t even got out of the car and there was a knock on the driver’s door window. I opened the door. It was Braydon McKay. He asked me what to do because Jade had been stabbed. I told Braydon to take him to the hospital. All I could hear coming from Braydon’s car was Jade yelling out he couldn’t move and couldn’t breathe.’’

Fraser rang 111 at 11.16pm, she said.

‘‘I was talking to Jade. Jade was rolling around and saying he was sore and couldn’t breathe. He said he was going to die. I told him to shut up and not say that. Cyril [McAllister’s biological father] was trying to put pressure on his stab wounds with towels. He had three towels on three different wounds.’’ Earlier in the night McAllister and McKay had visited Fearn and Fraser and had bought the whole family takeaways for tea, she told the court.

She had been with McAllister’s father for six years and told the court McAllister was fostered out when he was quite young and went by the name of Jack McAllister.

‘‘Cyril had not seen Jade for about 11 and a half years . . . He was in and out of our lives since Cyril and I started to have kids. In the last year before he died Jade had become more involved with our family. Jade would occasionally come over to our house.’’

He would sometimes bring his friend McKay to the house, as well as co-defendant Christopher Brown who is one of five on trial for murder, and the 17-year-old woman with name suppression who has already pleaded guilty.

Fraser told the court McAllister and the woman ‘‘had issues in their friendship’’.

‘‘Some weeks they would be all good with each other and the next they would be fighting.’’

On Wednesday evening, Fraser was told Brown had posted a Facebook message saying, ‘‘Where the f...k are you Jack McAllister?’’.

She rang Brown, telling him to take down the post, she said.

He hung up, so she rang him back.

She also sent him a text telling him to ‘‘wipe the post, I’m on my way to the cops now’’.

Brown called her during the night, as well as messaging back at 11.38pm saying ‘‘I did’’ and added a smiley face.

The trial continues.

‘‘All I could hear coming from Braydon’s car was Jade yelling out he couldn’t move and couldn’t breathe.’’ Debra Fraser
