The Waiau Community Theatre Group is busy putting the final touches together for its 54th anniversary production in conjunction with 14 students from the Waiau Area School.

Waiau Community Theatre president Anne Horrell said this year the students would present two short plays.

‘‘The plays are directed by Lyla Sherriff, who is assisted by Louise Greber, and there will be a singing segment, during the production, led by Waiau Area School music teacher Lisa Redhead,’’ Horrell said.

The theatre players will perform two one act plays, one of which has been written by local man, Brendan Corkery titled The Power Lunch, which would have its world premiere performance this weekend.

Theatre director Lyla Sherriff said the students have been practicing hard for two months leading into the performances.

‘‘We are very grateful for the support of their parents and the cooperation of the school principal and teachers has been great,’’ Sherriff said.

‘‘We have a wide variety of interesting characters popping up during the production including a pig, a wolf, Spiderman, Prince Charming, Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel, making for a fun filled evening,’’ Sherriff said. Performance nights are tonight and tomorrow night at the Waiau Area School hall in Tuatapere.
