Dixon ‘only alive when going fast’ – wife

-

Scott Dixon’s wife Emma has offered the perfect summation of New Zealand’s IndyCar star.

‘‘Unless he’s going really fast, he doesn’t feel alive.’’

Emma, the former British athletics star who has been married to Dixon since 2008, the year he won the Indy 500, delivers the line in Born Racer, the Hollywood production about his stellar career.

The extended trailer for the movie was released yesterday.

Emma’s joy and anguish features heavily in the trailer as she follows the fortunes of his life-threatening job. As Dixon says: ‘‘You live to race

. . . everything else comes around that.’’

American broadcaster NBC Sports had glowing words for Dixon as they previewed the movie, describing him as ‘‘the greatest and winningest driver on the American open-wheel scene over the last 15 years – and likely with even greater success still to come’’.

‘‘Because he’s so unassuming and modest, the 38-year-old Dixon isn’t always immediately recognised for the outstanding accomplishments he’s achieved behind the wheel, driving the last 16 years of his 18-year IndyCar career for team owner Chip Ganassi.

‘‘That’s why Born Racer, the new documentary about Dixon, his life, his team, his family and the sport is eagerly being anticipated.’’

The IndyCar fraternity will have a private screening on September 24 before it is released on October 2.
