Popular fishing competition all set for Labour Weekend

-

Organised and run by the Te Anau Community Events Charitable Trust, the Te Anau Manapouri Fishing Classic is a major fishing competition for all ages held annually in Fiordland over Labour Weekend.

Stabicraft are again the major sponsor for this year’s event, in addition to many other sponsors, without whom this event would not be the success it is year-after-year.

The Fiordland fishing competition is run over the two lakes, Te Anau and Manapouri as well as the Upper Waiau River.

This year’s major prize is a Stabicraft 1550 Fisher with a 50hp Yamaha 4 Stroke motor and DMW trailer.

The competition runs from 2pm on the Friday and concludes at 2pm on the Sunday with prize giving at 3pm at the Te Anau Rugby Grounds.

There is a "shoot out" to win, with 10 names of people who caught a fish drawn out.

The Te Anau Manapouri Fishing Classic fishing tournament winner is found by knockout of weigh in tickets being drawn. There are also some great spot prizes up for grabs.

This really is a fishing competition for the whole family with categories for Adult Men, Adult Women, Junior and Child. Both adult and child anglers stand an equal chance of catching a fish in either Lakes Te Anau or Manapouri and the upper Waiau River.

2018 Take a Kid Fishing This part of the Te Anau Manapouri Fishing Classic event is aimed at kids under 12 to give fishing a go.

Held at McGregor’s Pond, kids have the chance of landing the big one!

There are experienced anglers on hand to show techniques for fishing.

There are giveaways on entering, at the pond, and fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Take a Kid Fishing runs Friday 19th October and Saturday 20th October.

It starts at 2pm Friday and runs through until 5pm on the Saturday.

Please note there will only be support staff at McGregor’s Pond on the Saturday.

Prize giving for the Take A Kid Fishing will be held on Sunday 21st October at the Te Anau Rugby Club grounds (in the case of wet weather, then prize giving will be moved to the Fiordland Community Events Centre).

The main competition prize giving will be held after this, at 3pm.
