Big turnout for season start

- Dave Nicoll

The new Riverside Speedway committee is feeling confident after a solid start to the racing season during the weekend.

With a new sponsor, new signage, a resurfaced track and a good crowd, the tone has been set for the season.

Drivers were keen with double club points on offer for all grades. In the super saloons Barry Redpath took out top position in all three races.

Graham Williamson, of Cromwell, took out two wins in the Saloons in race one and three, Dan Black of Invercargill won race two.

Jack Brown won the first two races in the six shooters and Duane Cracknell won race three.

In the modified sprints Luke Shearing won the first two races and Kyle Hyde took the win in race three.

In the youth saloons Cody Glover won race one, Luke Molloy took out race two and Josh Glover took race three.

Asha Clements took first place in both race one and three with Tony Jones taking the win in race two.

Southland Streetstock Champion Mark Henderson won all three races in the street stocks.

In the stock cars Dunedin’s Erwin Tree won race one and three with Shannon Conner winning race two.

Riverside Speedway president Tiffany Dryden said the crowd was quite big for the opening meeting, with organisers expecting fewer people than actually turned up.

Club Patron Bruce McMurdo was happy with how good things looked, Dryden said.

The facilities had been given a tidy up and new signage had been installed, with X Factor Cars taking over as the new title sponsor for the club.
