Go Motoring Mad for Mataura Scouts
Motoring Mad is a must-attend three-day event for car lovers of all types, held annually in Mataura and Gore, .
Organiser Tony Richardson says over 100 people entered last year with a significant number of entries received for the Sunday show day.
Registrations for this year’s event are in, with Motoring Mad expected to be a huge drawcard for car enthusiasts over the three days.
Scheduled for the weekend of November 16 to November 18, entries will include all vehicles from vintage, classic and modern classic, to muscle cars and hot rods.
Registrations closed on Wednesday, October 31.
The weekend begins on the Friday evening with a hark back to yesteryear.
Offering an amazing historical atmosphere, not often seen on the streets of Gore, cool cars cruise along the main street, and others park up and enjoy background music from the same era.
Starting from 7.30pm, vehicles cruise the main street until late.
Saturday includes another cruise of approximately 200km around Southland, enjoying the sights and scenery along the way and stopping off on occasion for photo opportunities, and heading to the beach for lunch, which is supplied to participants.
That evening there is a meal at the Gore Town and Country Club with live entertainment to be enjoyed.
This popular portion of the weekend is included in the cost of participants registration, and is not to be missed.
Finally on Sunday, the public are given the opportunity to view all the vehicles involved in the event with a public display at Tulloch Park, Mataura starting at 9am and concluding at 2pm.
Certain to be a fabulous day, the show includes live music and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
Now in its eighth year, Motoring Mad is an event created to help raise funds for the Mataura Scouts.
Each year money is put towards the general running cost and subsidising children’s fees, updating of equipment (camping gear, tents etc) and possibly interior upgrades/ repairs to the scout den, as these are all ongoing costs.
In the past, participants in Motoring Mad have come from right across the country to attend what has become a very successful and enjoyable event for all involved.
