A former railway junction, Winton has some fantastic local businesses and great shopping. Just under 30 minutes drive from Invercargi­ll, the township of Winton is like stepping into another world.

It experience­s a different climate from that of Invercargi­ll and can often be warm and bright when others are dark and cold.

Situated on the Invercargi­llQueensto­wn highway, travellers find Winton a handy refreshmen­t stop on the way north or south – there are character cafe´s and friendly pubs to enjoy.

If you fancy a stroll, you can walk part of the heritage trail which takes in historic treasures built by the region’s European pioneers.

Winton is an amazing little town in the heart of rural Southland, New Zealand. ■ Twilight Golf Fundraiser – November 23, 2018: St Thomas School PTA 2 yearly fundraiser Twilight Golf. Friday 23 November 2018 4pm. Frist tee-off 5.15pm (Ambrose), teams of 3 - $20 per player, includes entry, green fees and BBQ. Save the date – market it on your calendar. The Southern Artisan Christmas Feˆte is held within the beautiful gardens of The Hideaway 201 - just 5 minutes out of Winton - central to all of Southland and a must-see for garden and shopping enthusiast­s.

A great atmosphere and a fantastic selection of quality artisan stallholde­rs from all over the South Island make this an outing not to be missed. Shop for gifts and handmade wares that you won’t see anywhere else homewares, Christmas gifts, art and sculpture, garden plants, womens and childrens clothing, jewellery, linen, homewares and outdoor furniture. A perfect start to your Christmas shopping or just to enjoy a day out in the country coupled with hand selected quality gifts, live music, craft-brewed beers, cider and delicious artisan food. Each year new exhibitors are added to the feˆte so don’t miss checking out these fabulous new stallholde­rs!

There are always new exhibitors each year with gorgeous artisan wares. The Hideaway restaurant & Boardroom will be open on-site in the garden on the day of the fete for lunch, platters and coffee (no bookings sorry). Live music plays throughout the day so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Each year local music is played from the deck of the house in the food area. The feˆte will be held regardless of weather. No dogs, BYO or picnics please. There will be Eftpos facilities on site but a cheque book and cash is always handy!

Purchase your day pass for just $35 including a gourmet lunch box, compliment­ary glass of bubbles or juice and your gate entry. ■ Winton Theatre Restaurant, December 5 to 8, 2018: Quality Meal, Quality Local Southland Entertainm­ent. Wednesday night show might be a supper instead of a full meal (ticket price will reflect the difference and the bar will still be open) Thursday, Friday, Saturday will be full buffet meal from Country Manor and a fun/ risque/quality vocal show reflecting the best talent we can find ..... more details to follow ....

■ Christmas Winton Community Market – December 15, 2018: Winton Community Christmas Market. 10am to 1pm. Presbyteri­an Church Complex, Meldrum Street Winton.
