Strong result for Demons
Forklift NZ Demons and Demons Blue came out the winners in the senior softball competition at Surrey Park on Saturday, with the Forklift team defeating Placemakers Panthers 5-4, and Demons Blue easily accounted for Tigers 10-0.
One would be forgiven for thinking that they were not watching the top level of softball during the first game, with the Demons and Panthers making an unprecedented 10 errors between them.
Three of Demons runs were scored on errors, and three of Panthers, so in reality, the score should have been 2-1.
Giahnnii Paraku was the top batter for Demons with two hits, followed by William Campbell and Tim Campbell with one each.
Kaemyn Smith, Caleb Fetolofai, Wade McSoriley, Sam Mitchell and Steven Willis (1) were the batters for Panthers.
Daniel Perry did excel for Demons, striking out 14 of the Panthers batters.
With the Southland Men taking part in the South Island Jefferies Cup Tournament in Christchurch next weekend, and a majority of the players coming from these two teams, it is to be hoped that players will settle down and play error free softball.
In comparison to the first game, Demons Blue came up with 11 hits to make no contest in the win against Tigers.
Josh Richardson and Keegan Hilhorst combined to strike out 10 batters.
The ever improving Kayne Duggan came up with a home run for Demons in the top of the third innings, with player of the game Aaron Wakelin batting in 3 runs.
The 11 hits for Demons came from Wakelin, Wiremu Thomas-Jackson, Andrew Karsten (2) Hilhorst, Jimmy Affleck, Hunter Barlow, Richardson, Duggan (1), Aister Kazuki, Nic McDonald and Wiremu Karetai (1) came up with the three hits for Tigers.
