Mackay’s ton lifts Canty

-

Anything Anlo van Deventer could do, Frances Mackay could do better.

The unbeaten Central Hinds must have gone into the Hagley Oval change rooms fairly content, at the innings break of their Hallyburton Johnstone Shield match yesterday. Captain van Deventer had scored her maiden List A hundred as the Hinds mustered a very respectable 251-8 against Canterbury in round six of the 50-over competition.

Mackay had other ideas. The Magicians’ skipper more than matched van Deventer, hitting 21 fours in her 152-ball knock of 140. By the time she was third out, at 242, Canterbury were well on the way to a seven-wicket win.

That meant a first loss of the campaign for the Hinds, who now trail competitionleaders the Auckland Hearts by five points.

The Hearts made it sixfrom-six thanks to an eightwicket win over Otago in Dunedin.

Only three Sparks made double figures, headed by Leigh Kasperek with 34, as the hosts were bowled out for 107.

Kasperek then took two quick Auckland wickets, before Maddy Green (52 not out) and Katie Perkins, with an unbeaten 26, got the Hearts home with eight wickets and 31.5 overs to spare.

Wellington, with a 3-3 record, are third in the standings following their 104-run win over the Northern Spirit in Hamilton.

Captain Liz Perry made 114, while Amelia Kerr had a match-double of 48 and 3-17, as the visitors bowled the Spirit out for 181 chasing 286.
