Man didn’t know actions were illegal

-

A man who revved a Chrysler Valiant at police at the Gore races and then performed a skid said he didn’t know it was illegal to ‘‘light up’’ the car on grass.

Timothy Michael Holland, 20, of St Patricks, who appeared in the Gore District Court yesterday charged with driving with a sustained loss of traction was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for 10 months. The police summary of facts say Holland drove his friend’s car into a grass paddock that was being used as a carpark at the Gore races on December 23.

As he passed two uniformed police, he revved the engine at them, before accelerating further and performing a skid six car widths long.

The car was impounded.
