Southern firefighters help

Southland District Fire and Emergency crew members, pictured from left, Ken Keenan, Nigel Milne, Matthew Beer, Shane Rhodes and Jonathan Edmonds flew to Nelson yesterday afternoon to help battle wildfires that have broken out. The team, consisting the three volunteer firefighters and volunteer crew leader Keenan, are from the Garston, Hedgehope and Drummond brigades and are specialists in forestry fires. Earlier this week a blaze started in the Nelson-Tasman region and a state of emergency was declared.
