Warning to motorcylists

Motorcyclists are being urged to properly secure their luggage after a rider was seriously injured in a crash on Saturday afternoon. About 1pm police were alerted to an incident on the Lumsden Dipton Highway, at central Southland, where a motorcyclist crashed when his luggage came loose. A police spokesperson said it appeared ‘‘the rider’s sleeping bag became dislodged and was pulled into the wheel arch’’. The rider suffered serious injuries, and was taken to hospital by helicopter.
