Event Details

Entries to the Freeze Ya Bits Off Busking competition held in Gore at Queen’s Birthday weekend open on Monday 25 March.

Literally, ‘New Zealand’s coolest busking competition’, the event is part of a week-long festival of country music in Gore, including the NZ Gold Guitar Awards and the NZ Country Music Awards.

The Council events and promotion coordinator Emma Carle said with two prizes of $1000 each and a total prize pool of more than $3000, it was an event well worth freezing your bits off for.

‘‘The big prizes are for musicians, but there will be a prize for a non-musical performance this year too.’’

It’s an event that anyone of any ability can enter, musical or otherwise, Ms Carle said.

The competition starts with the fiercely contested schools competition on Thursday 30 May, then continues over lunchtime on Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June. The top competitors are chosen to perform at the finals on Medway Street on the Saturday afternoon.

‘‘The finals are like a street

party with a relaxed atmosphere, a BBQ, mulled wine and outdoor heating.

‘‘It’s a fun mid-Winter event.’’
