Changes made at Beef + Lamb board
Two new faces have been welcomed to Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s Board of Directors.
Nicky Hyslop from Timaru has been elected to represent the Central South Island district, replacing sitting director Bill Wright from Cave.
Hyslop received 4832 votes while Wright received 3024 votes, making for a winning margin of 1808 votes.
The voting return percentage for the Central South Island was 21.09 per cent.
This represents 27 per cent of sheep, 28 per cent of cattle and 30 per cent of dairy livestock numbers in the district.
Hyslop and her husband Jonty farm Levels Estate, an intensive sheep, beef and arable property on the outskirts of Timaru.
Meanwhile Scott Gower from Ohura has been elected to represent the Western North Island district, replacing outgoing director Kirsten Bryant who did not seek re-election. Gower received 5996 votes while the other candidate Andrew Stewart from Marton received 2491 votes, making for a winning margin of 3505 votes.
The voting return percentage for the Western North Island was 16.33 per cent.
This represents 27 per cent of sheep, 25 per cent of cattle and 7 per cent of dairy livestock numbers in the district.
Gower and his wife Robyn farm High Glades, a 1300ha hill country sheep and beef property at Ohura in the King Country.
Tony Egan is also joining the board as an Associate Director, replacing Sam Lewis. Egan is the managing director of Greenlea Premier Meats and a member of the Meat Industry Association Council.
Anna Nelson also joins the Board as an Associate Director, taking over from Kate Acland.
The role of Associate Director is appointed on a one-year basis.
Nelson is currently working as a coordinator for King Country River Care Incorporated, farms a 1100ha breeding and finishing property, and was part of the Kellogg Rural Leadership programme.
B+LNZ chairman Andrew Morrison has extended his congratulations to the successful candidates as well as the outgoing directors.

‘’As a farmer-led organisation their participation in the governance of Beef + Lamb New Zealand is vital to ensure we deliver for our sheep and beef farmers,’’ Morrison said.
