Racehorse The Gordonian is providing his connections with loads of fun – but they have to be careful when standing close to him.

The Gordonian has a habit of standing on people’s feet while trying to push them over. Apart from that, he is a pleasure to have in the stable, Invercargill trainer Jo Gordon said.

‘‘He’s an easy horse to look after . . . he’s like a kid’s pony.’’

The Gordonian is 11 and won his 12th race in the $40,000 Winter Classic in Christchurch this month. His career record also includes 12 seconds, 13 thirds, 10 fourths, 11 fifths and $270,000 from 102 starts.

He has a good record in the Greymouth Cup having raced in it three times for two wins and a second.

Gordon believes The Gordonian did not mature fully until 7 or 8 years old. She also reckoned restricting him to no faster than three-quarter pace on speed training days and rain on the day of his races were factors in his favour.

‘‘Horses have to be happy and sound . . . if they’re neither of those, they won’t try,’’ Gordon said.

The Gordonian, who is spelling for seven weeks, will resume racing at the Christmas at the Races meeting at Ascot Park, Invercargill, on December 14.

When signs appeared of him losing interest in racing, he would be retired, Gordon said.

The horse’s owners are Gordon’s sister, Kirsty Anderson, and mother, Verona Gordon, Justine Condon, Judy and Sue Holland, Bryan Townley, Sharon Hinga, Nigel Minty and Neil Sword.
