Hospitality support staff a new initiative
It’s been an extremely busy start in 2020 for our Volunteer Coordinator, Robyn Bye.
Alongside a new initiative with our volunteers in the community, Robyn has developed our newest volunteering role ‘‘Hospitality’’ group.
Traditionally if you were to visit Hospice in the weekend, you’d be greeted with a closed off reception area and a grille in place.
Now, it’s that homely feel we pride ourselves on with a warm greeting and a friendly smile, with the grille up - we’re here to help you.
Predominantly used for kitchen support in the weekends, with patient fluctuations, we found our wonderful volunteers were at times, at a loose end with little to do.
With the current role they are now able to assist with adhoc administration duties, meet and greet with visitors and answering phones. We proudly have this service running every week evening (5pm - 7pm) and weekends (10am – 2pm).
Volunteers are at the very heart of Hospice Southland and without them we simply would not be able to run.
Our volunteers come from all backgrounds, and give incredibly valuable support across a wide range of different activities.
All volunteers help us provide the highest possible level of care for our patients and their families and carers.
So you’re reading this thinking why should I volunteer?
There’s multiple reasons why you should, you get to learn and develop your skill set, make new friends and enjoy like minded companionships and you get to give something back to the wider community.

Hospice Southland is hugely proud of our amazing volunteer base, we’re pretty biased, we think we have the best around!
We are always on the lookout for openminded, enthusiastic and committed people to volunteer with us and support our work.
We want volunteering to be a rewarding experience and provide full training to help you get the most out of your role!
