Wyn Jones set to join McCaw on 148 caps

-

Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones will equal All Blacks great Richie McCaw’s record for most test appearances when leading his side out against Scotland in the only Six Nations match going ahead this weekend.

Wyn Jones, who has also won nine caps for the

British and Irish

Lions, will play his 139th test for

Wales and match McCaw’s

148-test record tomorrow.

World Cup final the All Blacks won against Australia.

Wyn Jones made his international debut in

2006 and the 34-yearold lock should equal McCaw for most test appearances if the Cardiff test goes ahead as planned despite growing worldwide concerns about the coronavirus.

On what should have been the Six Nations’ climactic final round, the Italy-England and FranceIreland matches were postponed long ago, pushing the competition’s end to potentially October.

All of the women’s Six Nations matches this weekend were called off, including Wales-Scotland after a Scottish player tested positive for Covid-19.

The Wales-Scotland match has long been a 74,000-seat sellout, and social media seems to be buzzing with as many people wanting to sell their tickets as people wanting to buy them.

That’s because, though the Six Nations appears to be fizzing out from the postponements, there’s still a lot riding on the game in Cardiff.

Scotland, after opening with losses to Ireland and England, will remarkably move to top of the standings if they can beat Wales in Cardiff for the first time since 2002.

Thanks to Scotland beating France last weekend at Murrayfield, four teams have a shot at the title: current leaders England, France, Scotland and Ireland, who have two games in hand.

Wales’ title defence evaporated three weeks ago, and consecutive defeats to Ireland, France and England make up their worst losing run in the championship since 2007.
