Providing a professional service since 1881
For over 130 years Macdonald & Weston Ltd. has been providing a professional service to the public of Southland and the city of Invercargill.
Originally established as Kingsland and Ferguson Ltd, the company was founded in 1881 by Henry Kingsland and William Ferguson.
The pair operated as Kingsland and Ferguson Ltd until 1910 when the business was purchased by John Hays Pay and John Edward Taylor, both employees of the original firm.
The funeral home continued to operate under the name of Kingsland and Ferguson until 1923 when the name changed to
Macdonald & Weston Ltd after James Taylor Macdonald and H. P. Weston.
Over the years, Macdonald & Weston Ltd has kept pace with the changing times, providing first class premises, modern vehicles and equipment and a quiet and efficient service to the public.
Since 2012, the company has been run by Managing Director Sharron Hanley who has a lot of experience in funeral services.
She believes the most important part of her job is listening and communicating, particularly at the first meeting, where the arrangements are made.
Sharron has completed both her Diploma in Funeral
Directing and Diploma of Embalming, and was joined in the company by husband David in 2015.
David is Macdonald & Weston’s resident Funeral Directors assistant and runs the Casket/Back Room.
His days are spent taking care of and maintaining their fleet of hearses, creating DVD reflections and audio CDs, as well as Sound Technician duties.
He is passionate about his role and ensures everything runs smoothly.
