Super trucks roll into town
Truck racing will take centre stage this weekend at Teretonga Park in Invercargill as the NZ Super Truck Championship rolls into town.
The NZ Super Trucks will headline two days of racing at Teretonga which will also include the Mobil 1 Mainland Muscle Cars.
Five-time Super Truck champion and championship leader Troy Wheeler of Hicks Bay near Gisborne will line up at Teretonga in his Freightliner Century as one of the favourites. Although Alex Little of Wellington in a Freightliner has topped the podium the last two occasions the trucks have met at Teretonga.
A good field including Little’s father, former three-time champion Malcolm Little, will contest four races with Freightliner, Volvo and Bedford represented while Garry Price of Winton will be at the wheel of his International Transtar.
The Mainland Muscle Cars have also amassed an impressive lineup.
Brendan Mason in his Chev Camaro, previously owned by Team NZ boss Grant Dalton, will be a strong hometown chance.
The Pre 65 Saloons will feature Ford Mustangs, Ford Falcon XPs plus some great cars of the era such as Anglias, an Austin A40 Farina, Ford Cortina, Valiant AP6 and an EH Holden. Corey Ross of Ashburton is the reigning champion while Southlanders John Smolenski and Wayne Tuffley were well placed in their class in last year’s championship. Garry Price backs up from his Super Truck commitments to drive a Ford Falcon XP.
The Noel McIntyre Drainage Club Saloons boasts some great machinery with two-time NZV8 Class 2 Champion Liam MacDonald of Invercargill unbeatable last time out at the Mobil 1 Classic SpeedFest in his Ford Falcon.
The action starts at 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.
