Vaccine stats begin to slow

The rise in Southlande­rs getting their Covid-19 vaccine is starting to slow, new data shows.

However, numbers are continuing to climb after the Super Saturday push to get New Zealanders vaccinated last weekend.

New figures from the Ministry of Health show as of Wednesday, 82 per cent of Invercargi­ll residents have had their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 64 per cent are fully vaccinated.

This is an increase from data released October 13 week that showed 78 per cent of people in Invercargi­ll had their first, and 58 per cent were fully vaccinated.

This means 29,563 people in the eligible population of 45,988 in Invercargi­ll are fully vaccinated, while 37,487 have had one dose.

In Southland, 78 per cent of people had one dose, up from 75 per cent last week, and 57 per cent were fully vaccinated, up from 49 per cent the week before.

In an eligible population of 25,076, 19,530 people have had

one dose and 14,245 are fully immunised.

Gore also saw a big jump with 79 per cent of people having had one dose, up 4 per cent from a week ago, while 64 per cent of people were fully vaccinated, up 7 per cent from last week.

The Gore District Council are has an eligible population of 10,754 – 8504 of which have had one dose, while 6898 are fully vaccinated.

Super Saturday, a nationwide push to get more New Zealanders vaccinated, resulted in a further 9706 vaccinatio­ns administer­ed in the Southern District Health Board catchment area – 2885 first doses and 6825 second doses.

This included 3731 doses in Dunedin, 1312 in Invercargi­ll, 1249 in Wanaka, 788 in Queenstown, 601 in Central Otago, 379 in Gore and 257 in the ‘‘Southland’’ district.

Nationwide, the 100,000 vaccine target was hit by 3pm on Saturday, and carried on into the night with 129,995 Covid-19 vaccine doses administer­ed for the day.
