Dotcoms want home help before baby arrives

- Debbie Jamieson

Tech entrepreneur Kim Dotcom and his wife Liz are seeking a nanny, and perhaps several staff members, to work at their

$15 million Glenorchy home.

In an advertisement on Twitter, Dotcom says the pair need help ‘‘seriously’’ at their remote home, about 45 kilometres from Queenstown.

They are after a nanny for their baby boy, due in October, a personal assistant, a housekeeper and a chef, the ad says.

Dotcom became a household name after armed police in 2012 stormed his rented Auckland mansion by helicopter at dawn, at the behest of the FBI, alleging he was part of a ‘‘mega conspiracy’’ over the Megaupload website. He is still embroiled in an extradition process with the US Supreme Court.

Dotcom said they were looking to increase their team in Glenorchy and had already had some good applicants. ‘‘We offer great pay + you get to live at the most amazing place on earth,’’ the Twitter ad said.

It’s not clear if the roles are separate jobs or involve multitasking.

In another tweet Dotcom said the ‘‘government spies and other lunatics’’ do not need to apply. ‘‘We do thorough background checks and my job interviews are on legendary difficulty [sic]. Good luck.’’

The tweet features a short video of Liz Dotcom dressed in a sparkling gold outfit alongside a silver Porsche with the number plate ‘‘HELP’’.

Dotcom bought the car for his best friend, Finn Batato, who died from cancer earlier in June.

Batato had chosen the number plate and had spent six months enjoying the car before his death, Dotcom said. It is now for sale again.

Batato was facing extradition over his role in the Megaupload website alongside Dotcom and two other men.

Dotcom’s co-accused, Bram van der Kolk and Mathias Ortmann, have since done a deal that will see them face charges in New Zealand in return for the United States dropping the extradition case against them.

Dotcom said the combination of the gold of Liz’s outfit and the silver car in the Twitter photo was a comment on crypto currency investors buying gold and silver due to the crypto market ‘‘tanking’’.

The couple married in January 2018.
