An organisation that offers more than just a job…
In 1944 the community of Invercargill made a bold decision that not only ended prohibition but it set the city up for success for years to come. The community voted for a trust model that created ILT a community owned organisation that serves the people of Invercargill.
All these years later, ILT is privileged to continue this work and support the community of Invercargill. More than ever, there is an increasing appreciation for social enterprise business concepts like this that value community needs ahead of individual gain.
Today ILT owns and operates 23 successful hospitality businesses from accommodation, bars and restaurants to bottle stores and distribution. All of these diverse parts contribute a share of their profits back into the community.
Earlier this year ILT grants reached 200 million dollars, it’s an impressive milestone, what’s even more remarkable is the flow on effect to the wider community.
Invercargill is the envy of a great many other provincial cities because of the facilities and infrastructure that have been built as a result of this community funding and some excellent examples are ILT Stadium Southland, SIT Velodrome and Splash Palace.
ILT also supports thriving community groups, a burgeoning arts culture, scholarships across tertiary education, trades, arts and sport.
Family is one of ILT’s core values and with a team of more than 600, ILT’s friends, whanau, and hapori (community) are what’s most important to it. It wants to support their growth in every way it can and provide ongoing training.
ILT continues to reinvest in the city offering employment opportunities, purchasing goods and services through a variety of local suppliers and investing in its businesses. The most recent and notable development is The Langlands Hotel. Due to open next month it will be the single most significant development in ILT history.
The Langlands is a seven-storey, 78-room, 41⁄2-star hotel located in the heart of Invercargill. It is more than just a hotel, it has been developed with the community in mind and features bespoke public areas that are easily accessible by locals and visitors alike. The $52 million complex includes five eateries and bars that will help add to the vibrancy of the inner city.
ILT exists mo¯ to¯ ta¯ tou hapori (for our community) with its ultimate aim being a vibrant Invercargill for all who live, work and play in this fantastic city.
