Jinu Abraham – Executive Chef, The Langlands Hotel

Jinu relocated from Auckland to take up his dream role as Executive Chef of The Langlands Hotel.

He’s set to lead the food creation across the hotel’s portfolio which includes seven menus for the different eateries and bars, due to open next.

‘‘There is a sense of excitement when opening a hotel of this magnitude, not only for the community but also for the people involved,’’ said Jinu.

‘‘For me, it is about leading a dynamic team with a focus on refining techniques in a modern,

fast paced kitchen with multiple outlets.’’

Candice Scarlett – Kelvin Hotel Candice is in the final year of SIT’s Bachelor of Hotel Management. She’s always had an interest in hotel operations but

it wasn’t until she joined the team at the Kelvin Hotel that she was able to apply her theory to real life situations and things started to make sense to her.

‘‘My knowledge and thinking have improved and expanded as a result of working at the Kelvin Hotel. I have had the chance to put my knowledge and theoretica­l abilities from my SIT course into practice. And of

course, my work helps with my study too.’’

‘‘My manager is open to me introducin­g fresh ideas to the restaurant because she is highly passionate about her work and places a high priority on training,’’ she said.

Next month Candice will join the team at The Langlands and as part of her internship paper, she will get the chance to experience all the different areas of the

hotel.

Again she will combine study and work using The Langlands as a case study for her research paper on sustainabi­lity to explore the new systems and innovative techniques being implemente­d by the team.
