Anything but BORING
Lean in to the cosy and characterful vibe of Dunedin
The un-initiated among us might think that there’s not much going on in this charming southern city, but there are few other places in New Zealand where you can indulge your thirst for quirky urban culture, history and natural beauty in quite the same way.
Winter in Dunedin gets a particularly bad rap but contrary to what you might think, the city really comes into its own during the cooler months of the year, when the swathe of cosy eateries, bars, galleries, museums and heritage attractions warmly beckon. It also happens to be one of the best times of the year to view the legendary local wildlife.
ANYTHING BUT bland
You’ll find exceptional food here any time of the year but when the day calls for a hearty meal and perhaps a wee dram of two, there are no shortage of options.
Hit the town for a culinary tour of trending city eateries such as tı¯tı¯, the Press
Club or Moiety, then sample a cocktail of two at the likes of Indigo Room, Woof! or Zanzibar. Local favourites such as Plato, Speight’s Ale House, Bracken, Jizo and Vault21 are always popular and great picks for winter dining. And beer enthusiasts can make their way around the city’s many destination breweries, which also serve tasty food.
Embrace the city’s many culinary delights during Dine Dunedin, 5-21 August.
ANYTHING BUT boring
Top up your culture tanks with a visit to one of the many museums, galleries or historical attractions; you’ll discover something new each time, from fine art and visiting exhibitions through to fascinating antiques that tell the story of New Zealand’s past.
ANYTHING but dark
The clear winter skies around the outskirts of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula unveil a stellar show of epic proportions as the galaxy illuminates the sky. For night owls, the Aurora Australis can often be seen shimmering across the horizon in vivid hues.
