Networker backed

- Tom Pullar-Strecker

For some, ‘‘networking’’ is a mystery and for others it is a chore.

But for Claudia Batten, 39, who was last night named the youngest winner of the supreme award at the World Class New Zealand Awards, it is both a professional passion and a way to give back to the entrepreneurial community.

The Samuel Marsden School and Victoria University law graduate hit the headlines in 2007 when Massive Software, the New York software firm she cofounded, was bought by Microsoft for a confidential sum that some reports put as high as US$400 million (NZ$470m).

The awards are run by ex-pat network Kea and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
