Virgin’s NZ staff face positions being axed
Virgin Australia staff in New Zealand may lose their jobs as the airline is considering shifting the roles to Australia.
Christchurch’s chief executive of Virgin Australia New Zealand, Mark Pitt, said yesterday reviews had been continuing on the airline’s work for years, with a new one just underway. He said last night that he was meeting with his staff.
A reported
estimate suggests that 40 staff could be adversely affected.
A spokesman said the airline was reviewing a proposal to integrate the management of it’s operations into the rest of their international operations.
The proposal would potentially see one team manage all international operations out of Brisbane, Australia.
‘‘The proposal would create a single line of accountability, improving co-ordination of our international operations and reducing duplication,’’ the spokesman said.
