Play: The New Zealand premiere of Walking across Egypt by Catherine Bush, a heart-warming comedy adapted from the best-selling novel and film at the Playhouse at 194 Church St in Timaru from September 30 to October 8. Shows have a 7.30pm start, with at 4pm matinee on October 4. Book at or Newman’s MusicWorks or Timaru Visitor Centre. Door sales. FRIDAY Wonky Donkey and Mr Yipadee: 9am and 11.30am at Highfield Primary School Hall. The children’s authors and musicians will perform in a show suitable for children 2 years of age and older. Maungati Musical Blossom festival: 11am a lone piper plays under the cherry trees, at 143 Timaunga Rd in Maungati. $5 for adults, students and children free. Music from various groups. SUNDAY Countdown boot sale: 10am to 2pm at Countdown on Church St. Phone Nicole on 03 687 1250 to hold a stall, $10 cost. Raising money for Countdown Kids.

Spring Glory Extravagan­za: 11am to 4pm at the Timaru Botanic Gardens on Queen St. A variety of stalls and a sausage sizzle. Entry a gold coin donation to Alzheimers South Canterbury.

Timaru Garden Tour: 10am to 3pm. Visit nine small city gardens, not normally open to the public, raising money for Alzheimer’s South Canterbury. Tickets are $25 (which includes a compliment­ary Devonshire tea at Botanic Gardens) from Fashion Focus, Kidstuff or ph Val 684 4531 or Rose (686 2132). Individual gardens are $5 each, payable at the gate.
