Convictions over sex with 14-year-old

-

A woman who had sex with a 14-year-old boy and later told police he raped her has been convicted of making a false allegation.

Annatashia Hunt, 20, of East Gore, was convicted on one charge of sexual connection with a minor, making a false statement, and breach of bail when she appeared before Judge Joanna Maze on Tuesday.

The court heard that Hunt travelled to Oamaru, and later missed her bus to travel home.

She contacted the victim, who she knew through a mutual friend, and asked to stay at his house.

That night, the pair had consensual sex.

Hunt stayed at the house for two days, where the pair were observed by friends to be cuddling and kissing, the court heard.

When an older friend of the victim confronted Hunt and threatened to tell the boy’s mother, Hunt contacted police and handed herself in.

She initially admitted having sex with the boy, but then told police he had forced himself on her. Police inquiries later determined the sex had been consensual.

Judge Maze declined an application for bail, saying the offending was serious and that Hunt presented a ‘‘significant risk of flight’’.
