Bosson to ride at Riccarton

- JAMIE SEARLE

Hong Kong-based jockey Opie Bosson will make a fleeting visit to Christchurch to ride in the 2000 Guineas at Riccarton on November 5. He will ride in Hong Kong the next day.

Bosson has won the 2000 Guineas on six occasions – 2014 (Turn Me Loose), 2013 (Atlante), 2009 (Katie Lee), 2003 (King’s Chapel), 1999 (Buzz Lightyear) and 1998 (Danske).

His mount this year, Jon Snow, ran second in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (October 1) at his last start for Cambridge trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman. Bosson’s New Zealand manager, Aidan Rodley, said the jockey was likely to pick up a mount in the open sprint, the Pegasus Stakes Handicap, at Riccarton.

Leith Innes is booked for Glass Slipper in the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton a week later.

Glass Slipper, with Innes in the saddle, finished second in Saturday’s Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie.

She is trained at Matamata by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott.

Innes’ two wins in the 1000 Guineas were on Costa Viva (2013) and Ad Alta (1999).

He rides the Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs-trained Mongolian Falcon in the 2000 Guineas, a Group I classic Innes has had one win in (Sacred Falls, 2012).
