Erakovic out

Marina Erakovic has lost a gruelling first round match in the main draw at the Miami Open. The New Zealand No 1 lost 4-6 6-4 7-6 against Shelby Rogers in a contest that lasted two hours 40 minutes. Having played a lengthy match in the final round of qualifying the previous day, against Canada’s Francoise Abanda, it was always going to be tough for Erakovic to back that up if she was involved in another match that went for three sets. One of Erakovic’s main weapons is her serve and it let her down. She got in 47 per cent of her first serves and made 13 double faults, compared to four from Rogers.
