Cafe on the Bay

-

Surely there is only one logical place for a cafe on Caroline Bay, though sadly logic doesn’t often prevail these days!

I assume there is plumbing already laid on at the changing sheds. It is central to all parking areas with the boardwalk leading to it.

A cafe adjacent, with large windows facing out to sea, would allow for indoor, or outdoor viewing, when coupled with the existing look out.

Friends and I enjoyed a walk along the sand one morning last week, accompanied by their little dogs.

We finished off with a thermos of coffee while seated on a large tree stump. All very rustic and fine for younger members of the public, but we are Golden Girls and in time will struggle with such a facility.

I notice, on my frequent visits to the boardwalk, that there is a prevalence of silver hair on folk I encounter. All would no doubt appreciate a place to rest awhile, and enjoy refreshments while taking in the scenery. As undoubtedly would tourists.

Caroline Bay is the highlight of Timaru, which I frequently observe as being underutilised. So much has been achieved in hard work and with no expense spared, so let us enhance it that bit further and make it more welcoming and attractive to allcomers. I would hope to see it happen in my lifetime as it has been a long time coming. S J Wade Timaru
