Clean sweep against Timaru for Otago Boys’

Timaru Boys’ High School were well beaten in their annual winter exchange against Otago Boys’ High School.

Played in Dunedin in cold conditions the hosts were the overall victors 8-0, with only the TBHS hockey First XI managing a 1-1 draw.

Against a spirited Otago team, Ben Stayt worked hard on defence while Jack Sands caught the in open play.

Oli Anderson scored for TBHS after good lead up work by Duncan Rollinson, while Matt Ellis also worked hard both on defence and attack.

The senior football team were competitiv­e early on and went into half time only 2-1 in arrears and then it was 3-2 early in the second half.

Having to play catch-up was however tough against a physical side that did not allow them back into the game, going down 4-2.

TBHS’s junior football team struggled against a technicall­y superior Otago going down 5-0.

In rugby a classy Otago First XV won their encounter 36-5.

The TBHS colts team acquitted themselves well but ultimately also struggled against a superior Otago outfit, as the final score of 52-24 indicated.

Hugh Cameron and Darian Dysaght both scored tries while George Mulder tried hard.

Todd Phillips and James Watt were the standouts for TBHS in the senior basketball.

Phillips controlled the TBHS game well and Watt used his height to his advantage against a strong Otago outfit, whose dominance throughout the court showed with a 86-56 win.

There was a similar score in the junior basketball, as TBHS struggled to stop the free scoring home team going down 75-46.

The TBHS squash team tried hard but were up against a team that plays club squash on a regular basis and went down 5-0

The young chess team acquitted themselves well and showed they have a good future with a close 5-3 loss.
